The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
