The former Liverpool manager says coming back to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I stated I won't manage any other side within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or constant media duties weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. With many victories thus frequently great spirits at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. They have a strong balanced team. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. Jota lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. It was an incredible shock for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space which he filled completely. Handling this individually is challenging. Overwhelming.”
