Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”

He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
